How do you apply to law school?

By Tara Kuther, Ph.D., About.com

Question: How do you apply to law school?
Answer: There are several steps involved in applying to law school. First, you should start preparing for the LSAT and register to take them within a few months. When you register for the LSAT, you should also register for the Law School Data Assembly Service (LSDAS), which is a service that assists you with the application process. LSDAS organizes your academic and biographical information and your LSAT scores for each Law School that you apply to. Additionally, you should start considering which Law Schools you would like to attend.

The Process of Applying to Law School:

  • Prepare for the LSAT.
  • Research Law Schools.
  • Register for the LSAT and LSDAS.
  • Obtain Transcripts and have them sent to the LSDAS or LSAC (Law School Admission Council).
  • Ask for Recommendations and have them sent to the LSAC or to the schools directly.
  • Take the LSAT.
  • Prepare your Personal Statement and have revised several times before you submit a final copy.
  • Complete Law School Applications.
