Experience

Tara Kuther, Ph.D., is a former writer for ThoughtCo who wrote articles about graduate education and professional development for 15 years. Dr. Kuther is a developmental psychologist with a background as a college and university level instructor. She began teaching at Western Connecticut State University in 1998. Dr. Kuther also taught undergraduate and graduate level classes at Lehman College, City University of New York, Iona College, Fordham University, and Teachers College, Columbia University. Her courses focus on the child, adolescent, and adult developmental processes.

She published several books, many which address professional development issues for college students. These titles include Surviving Graduate School in Psychology: A Pocket Mentor (Amer Psychological Assn., 2008) and The Psychology Major's Handbook ​(Wadsworth Publishing, 4th edition, 2015). Her work appears in many journals including Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking, College Teaching, Adolescence, and the College Student Journal. 

Education

Tara Kuther received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Developmental Psychology from Fordham University in 1998. She also holds a Master Arts (M.A.) in Developmental Psychology from the same university.
