Writing isn't easy. At one time or another most students and faculty will face with writer's block as they struggle to write a paper, admissions essay, or article. As Nate Kreuter writes in InsideHigherEd, the anxieties that plague writers fall into at least three categories: fear of judgment, fear of success, and fear of process. I think most of us are familiar with the fear of judgment and of success, but fear of process? The writing process itself is often uncomfortable. Wondering how to fill that blank screen, how to begin, can be downright painful. Managing the fear process entails coming to accept that writing is work.
