What is Plagiarism?

Definition: According to Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, plagiarism is to
  • steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
  • use (another's production) without crediting the source
  • commit literary theft
  • present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
Examples:
  • Handing in someone else's work as your own
  • Copying phrases and sentences without giving the author credit
  • Presenting another person's ideas as your own (i.e., not citing him or her)
  • Failing to put quotation marks around phrases and sentences copied verbatim
  • Giving false information about a source
  • Changing a few words within a sentence and paragraph while mainting the same strucutre and organization and not crediting the author
