Get Motivated to Work

By Tara Kuther, Ph.D., About.com

We've all been there: writing that paper that feels like it will never end. How do you improve your motivation? Try these tips:
  • Sit up straight
  • Go for a brisk walk
  • Breathe deeply and forcefully (oxygen is energizing)
  • Shift activities to something more physical and then return to your work
  • Work standing up
  • Move to a different work area where you are not as comfortable
  • Turn the lights up
  • Change to a more uncomfortable chair and desk
  • Turn the temperature down
  • Do some quick exercise
  • Take a break to play a sport
  • Go for a swim
  • Change the scenery: move to an unfamiliar office or area
  • Work in the library
  • Do 20 jumping jacks (even a short burst of activity can be enough to boost your energy)
What do you do to get motivated and move beyond writing blocks? Email your tips.
