What to Expect During the Medical School Interview?

By Tara Kuther, Ph.D., About.com

Question: What to Expect During the Medical School Interview?

If you made it to the interview process, your chances of acceptance to medical school have increased tremendously. Only applicants who appropriately fulfilled the previous requirements are granted an interview.

Answer: Before you visit, learn as much as possible about the school. The interviewer is then aware of your desire to attend their medical school.

During the interview, be prepared to answer common questions such as “Why do you want to become a doctor?” and “Why would you like to attend this medical school?” It is also important that you have knowledge on practicing medicine. Don't forget to ask questions as well. Most importantly, be honest and be yourself.

During your visit, explore the campus and talk to as many faculty and students as possible. They can give you a detailed perspective on what it is really like to be a medical student.

Interview Tips:

  • Arrive on time
  • Be yourself
  • Dress appropriately
  • Make eye-contact
  • Be polite
  • Answer Honestly
  • Ask Questions
  • Do not interrupt
  • Send a Thank You note
