Documents You Need to Complete the FAFSA

Gather your most recent financial records. For the 2009-2010 school year, for example, you will need to report financial information from 2008. Gather these documents:
  • Social security number
  • Driver's license
  • W-2 forms and other records of earnings
  • Federal Income Tax Return (for you and your spouse, if married)
  • Records of untaxed income including child support, Social Security, and veteran's benefits
  • Current bank and investments statements
  • If you are not a US Citizen, your alien registration or permanent resident card
