Definition: The curriculum vitae, often abbreviated as CV, is an academic resume. Whereas the traditional resume used in business and other nonacademic settings is one page long, CVs are not bound by a specific page length. They grow throughout an academic's career, often extending to a dozen pages or more. The graduate student's curriculum vitae is usually two or three pages. Incoming graduate students may have CVs of only a page. Length is not important as long as the vitae is honest, appropriately detailed, concise, and well written.
