Survey for Graduate Students

Getting into graduate school in psychology is tricky; it requires planning, hard work, and perseverance. In addition to my work on this site, I'm writing a new book to help graduate school applicants and new graduate students gain acceptance to and succeed in graduate school. Specifically, I'm looking for advice from graduate students on how to apply to graduate school and how to succeed once you're in. If you have questions about this survey, please email me at gradschool.guide@about.com

~Tara Kuther, Ph.D.

What is the one piece of advice that you'd give to students who are trying to locate graduate programs in their field of interest?

How did you choose among graduate programs? What advice do you give to applicants who are trying to decide where to apply to graduate school?

How can students who wish to apply to graduate school work to improve their credentials for admission?

What advice can you share about financial aid and sources of funding for graduate school?

How did you prepare for the GRE? What would you do differently, if anything?

How can applicants write a better personal statement?

How did you get letters of recommendation? What can students do to get great letters?

Many applicants find that the waiting after they've submitted their application is the worst part of the process. What piece of advice would you give them to help?

Did your program require an interview? What advice would you give to students who are going on interviews for graduate school?

What should an applicant do if he or she is rejected and doesn't get into a graduate program?

What one piece of advice would you give to a new graduate student? What do they need to know and do to succeed?
