One of my former students who just got into graduate school was thrilled but terrified that she wouldn't be able to pay for it - or that she'd have a six-figure debt when she graduated. Upon submitting her graduate school application, she applied for financial aid by completing the FAFSA, which made her eligible for financial aid and helped the school determine her need. She received her acceptance letter with a note that the financial aid package was not yet complete. She waited to accept, knowing that she may not be able to otherwise afford graduate school. Yesterday she got a call that she is being awarded a teaching assistantship, which includes tuition remission and a stipend. There are many forms financial aid may take.
