Questions, Questions, and More Questions About Recommendation Letters

One of the most stressful parts of applying to graduate school is soliciting letters of recommendation. Sure, asking for a letter is stressful. Perhaps more worrisome is the lack of control you have over the process: Will the faculty member agree to write on your behalf? Even more important, will he or she write a helpful letter? Most applicants have a myriad of questions about recommendation. Here are some of the most common questions - and answers.
