Medical School Enrollment Expected to Grow Through 2012
Friday May 30, 2008
In recent years, a growing shortage of physicians has become a concern. A Fall 2007 survey of medical schools reveals that enrollment is expected to increase 21% by 2012, from 16,488 in 2002 to an anticipated 16,488. About 86% of schools report an increase or expected increase in enrollment of first-year students. Schools will grow by making additions to their current campuses, creating regional or branch campuses, and adding new clinical affiliations to provide additional training opportunities. What does this mean for you? If there are more medical school slots, there are more opportunities for admission.
