Blogging and Your Career

In an essay published in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Brandon Withrow asks whether blogging and other online activities can damage one's academic career. As he puts it: "Could my abundance of virtual-life opportunities be damaging my real-life ones?" He offers three rules for academics who blog: avoid negativity (especially in discussing your career, field, and institution, make constructive contributions to academic community by sharing your perspective, and be honest. He also offers advice for senior members on how to understand and deal with online academic activities.
