Should you choose your college/major with grad school in mind?

PLanning ahead is important, but just how early should you begin considering graduate study? Should your graduate school plans determine your choice of college and major?

As an older non-traditional student, it was important for me to optimize my undergraduate experience by aligning it with my intended graduate goals. This strategy enabled me to reduce the time and overall costs of pursuing my MBA because I was able to waive the foundation courses that were already taken during my undergraduate study.

Great point - thanks for sharing your experience and advice. The decision seems to rest on the student’s experience and needs. A traditional entering college student, say 18 years of age and without real-world experience, often doesn’t have a clear idea of what they will do post-graduation. Sure we might enter with an idea of what major to choose and career to enter, but many students find that their interests change over the college years — and that’s a good thing as college is intended to broaded horizons. However, other students, particularly non-traditional students usually enter college with more clear goals based on their experiences and needs. Thanks again
