Personal Statement Do’s and Don’ts

Virtually all graduate programs require that applicants submit essays, referred to as admissions essays or personal statements. Writing such an essay is stressful, certainly. There's ambiguity -- what does the admissions committee really want to hear? And there's uncertainty: What should you write about? What should you reveal? There are no easy answers. Some simple dos and don'ts can provide at least a little guidance, though.
