Rating Professors

Monday October 22, 2007
Websites where students can rate professors on items such as helpfulness, easiness, and hotness are controversial among professors yet students flock to them for information before they register for classes. This essay from the Chronicle of Higher Education discusses a professor's experience with the site - and how he moved from coveting a yellow smiley face to a blue frowny face. Another article discusses the issue of fake reviews. What do you think of RateMyProfessor.com?

Will someone please tell me what the “hot” rating signifies on this website?? Based on the ratings that I’ve seen (at my own institution), I cannot imagine that the rating has anything to do with physique or the like, but I’ve heard speculations of this. So, is an instructor rated as “hot” if s/he is a really great instructor or is the rating truly rlated to physique?
