Completing the Doctorate
Tuesday July 24, 2007
What supports do graduate students need to complete the doctorate? A new survey by the Council of Graduate Schools reveals that 80% of new doctorates surveyed reported that receiving financial aid was one of the main factors in completing the doctorate. 63% reported mentoring and advising, 60% family support. 39% pointed to peer support and program quality each, and only 30% reported professional and career guidance. THe moral? Look for funding however you can, seek a good mentor, and turn to your family for support and stress relief.
