Delayed Release of New GRE Test

Monday February 27, 2006
The revised GRE test, to be available only by computer, will be released a year later than planned, in fall of 2007. Educational Testing Service (ETS), the nonprofit organization that owns the test, announced the delay after encountering difficulties administering the online version of another of its tests, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Specifically there have not been enough testing sites in Europe to accommodate test takers. European educators charge that the problems may prevent some of their students from studying in the U.S. Given these challenges, ETS has rolled back the release date of the revised GRE to ensure that all potential problems are considered and solved. Until the revised GRE is released, the current computer and paper forms of the test will be administered.
