New Study Shows that PhD Recipients Are Not Diverse
Thursday May 26, 2005
A new study by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation indicates that there is a lack of diversity among PhD recipients. In 2003, only 7% of PhD recipients were black of Hispanic. There has been some increase in PhD degrees awarded to black and Hispanic students; however, they still earn only one PhD of every nine granted. Universities have been criticized for the lack of diversity among faculty; these findings hold implications for understanding this problem.
